SPL28 • Physical Exercise and Health: Challenges of the Present and Beyond

Physical exercise is an irreplaceable adjunct to the different dimensions of health throughout the life cycle and in sports, in the fields of prevention and treatment of the most diverse diseases. The WHO’s physical activity recommendations are the result of research carried out over several decades, generating robust epidemiological and experimental scientific evidence about its benefits and intervention processes.

Academic qualifications and scientific research have led to the training and specialization of exercise physiologists to work with different pathologies (CVD, oncological disease, type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, rheumatological disease, among others). The integration of these professionals into multidisciplinary clinical teams is a necessity to optimize exercise counselling and prescription for health gains. These and other topics will be debated in this panel.
