Luis SAMBO is a Medical Doctor, specialist in Public Health and holds a PhD on Management sciences. With more than 45 years of working experience at local, national and international levels; he has served his country Angola as District Medical Officer, Provincial Health Director, Vice Minister of Health, Secretary of State of Health and Minister of Health. Through 25 years as a staff-member of the World Health Organization (1989-2015) he held the posts of WHO Country Representative, Director of the AFRO Division in charge of Health Systems and Services Development, Director of Programme Management and was elected Regional Director of WHO for Africa (2005-2015). He is currently Senior Health Consultant of Africa-Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention; Chair of the Recognition Committee of the World Federation of Medical Education; Honorary Professor at the Center for Systems Studies of the University of Hull, UK; retired Professor and current Research Fellow at the Global Health and Tropical Medicine, IHTM/University Nova de Lisboa; and member of the Global Partnership for Maternal, New-Born and Child Health. He is member of the Angolan Medical Association, of the Portuguese Medical Association and life Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine in UK. He was recognized with titles of  Litterarum Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Hull, UK (2022), Doctor Honoris Causa by the University Nova de Lisboa, Portugal (2012), and Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Kinshasa, DRC (2009).
