Fernando Macário is Senior Vice President and the global Chief Medical Officer at Diaverum, a global leader in renal care, providing services in 25 countries to about 40,000 patients. As a nephrologist and transplantation specialist with over 30 years of experience, he has significantly contributed to renal care and medical management, including key roles at Diaverum Portugal and Diaverum Iberia. His career also includes impactful tenure at the University of Coimbra and the Coimbra University Hospital Centre, advancing medical education and, clinical care, research and management. Recognized for leading medical process improvements and his involvement in transplantation medicine, Fernando Macário has held prestigious positions, including the presidency of the Portuguese Society of Transplantation and as a jury member of the European Board of Transplantation Medicine. His commitment to healthcare extends to executive education at Harvard Business School in Managing Health Care Delivery and pioneering a digitalized care delivery model at Diaverum, along with substantial scholarly contributions to the field.
